Randomized selection of students and teams.

Cold Calling

Cold calling is a common activity for instructors interacting with students. Frequently, instructors seek to randomly call students. LMS Tools provides multiple solutions to assist with random cold calling.

The first solution is a desktop application that can run on just about any computer. The second solution is a browser-based solution that can operate online and requires no installation. Both solutions can integrate with several popular learning management systems.

These cold calling tools randomly select a user or team. The tool will track those that have been called so that a user or team will not be called a second time until all others have been called– unless you choose a different behavior. Sometimes a professor likes to deliberately call a user (not randomly) but make it appear random. It is possible to seed students such that they will be called on a particular calling (such as the fourth person to be called).

Depending on the LMS integration, the tool will pull the list of students and teams. Alternatively, students and teams can be manually added or imported via a text file.

Advanced features allow for direct access to a student or team assignment submission.

Display options are configurable so that the cold calling process can be displayed to students, presenting a randomized stream of folks- thus creating an air of apprehension as the tool displays names before settling on the selected person.
